I am sure we are all aware of the benefits of massage therapy for ourselves and it is the same for animals. Our companion animals benefit from massage in a variety of ways. Some clients are merely looking for pampering for their pets. We treat our animals as important family members and we want to provide the best quality of life for them. Hospitalized animals, like people, can suffer the effects of lack of touch and human socialization. As a massage practitioner as I stroke the animal’s body, I palpate variations in coat, surface skin temperature, textures of tissue, tightness of muscles, tendons and ligaments. I observe body language and behavior as the animal reacts to my actions.
Not to be confused with animal physical therapy, which provides specific range of motion activities, I do not limit myself to traumatized areas. By providing a full-body massage at each session it helps to involve all of the other elements of the body that are being stressed to compensate.
